Pietro Finazzi

Pietro Finazzi was born in 1951 in Locarno where he attended primary and secondary school. Thereafter he studied interior design and cabinetmaking at the Scuola d'Arti e Mestieri in Bellinzona. While working for an interior design office in Lugano, he began his musical studies at the conservatory of Parma where he obtained a diploma in classical guitar. At the same time he devoted himself intensively to painting which he loved from childhood.

In 1973 he met the painter Giovanni Molteni who was to become his mentor. From him he received important impulses for his way as an autodidact.

Many of his paintings were created on travels and longer sojourns in Spain, France, Scotland, Northern Germany and Italy. Today, Pietro Finazzi lives and works in the South of France where the colourfulness of the landscape and the unique kind of light inspire him.

In various exhibitions in Switzerland (Zurich, Lugano, Locarno, Niederglatt, Seewis), France (Orange, St. Rémy, Buis-les-Baronnies, Nyons, Mirabel aux Baronnies, Quintenas / Ardèche, Taulignan, Rosans) and Mallorca he has presented his paintings to the public.

"Especially through the technique of watercolor I try:

  • to immerse myself in the secrets of nature...
  • to capture the ephemeral atmosphere of a moment...
  • to encounter the wind in the clouds...
  • to sense the glow of a ripe field of grain...
  • to listen to the song of a sunset...
  • to follow the melody of a waterfall...
  • to understand the revelations of a tree...
  • to hear the timbre of a flower...
  • to imagine the pulse of a butterfly...
  • or quite simply: to reveal the beauty of everyday things."

(Pietro Finazzi)

Water-colour painting, the softest and most demanding form of painting, is made for giving duration to the most transient mood.
